The solution was to implement a premium email system that encourages the use of templates that can be modified for different campaigns. We then ensured that every mail-out was tracked so that the rich and useful data could help them evaluate the success of the campaign. The result was that time spent on approving copy was reduced, management of their database of clients was improved and conversion rates increased. The aesthetic quality and brand consistency seen in their mail-outs also improved dramatically as the new templates empowered the marketing team to design beautiful campaigns.

Nasa invited 9,000 people from around the world to solve 50 serious challenges relevant to our planet and space, in just 48 hours. Along with other top designers, developers and hardware specialists the UK has to offer, This Place got involved by leading a team to answer one of these challenges.
We chose the Soil challenge to create a cheap, accessible soil testing kit. This kit enables growers from all over the world to make well-informed decisions about how to make best use of the soil. With particular focus on accessibility for poorer framers.
Efficiently briefed and coordinated, one part of the team physically hacked hardware to create a probe to measure temperature, PH, moisture levels, GPS, time and date. Another sub-team created a new database, designed to pass the hardware data to a light-weight web app and text service. Working smartly, drawing on a range of skills, the team fully answered the challenge in 48 hours; pretty impressive!
We also designed a version of the product that can work in space for when we want to know where to plant our bananas on Mars
The product our team created could be used for many different applications, our key thinking has been in its application for farmers in emerging economies by ensuring they are growing crops that are most appropriate for that seasons soil conditions. The final hardware is being tested and prototyped using a 3D printer. This provides an extremely low cost solution – around £3 per probe.
We have already had requests ranging from local growers to large-scale Brazilian farmers who want to test our product.
